Anytime your IT staff or a 3rd party contractor are doing work to your network, CAMA server or your individual computers you should always ask questions about the work being performed. The Assessor is ultimately responsible for the data in the database and the workflow associated with entering and maintaining that data. As the County Assessor you deserve an explanation of the work being done, even if you do not understand all of the technical detail.
The scope of this work should be communicated to either CCI or the Department of Revenue as it may have an impact on the county’s CAMA system. This could affect anything from the database’s nightly backup to CCI and the Department’s ability to support the CAMA system (e.g. DOR VPN, connectivity to CAMA server, oracle tools, etc.)
Remember there is no such thing as a “dumb question” and as the Assessor you deserve a valid explanation about the work being done to your CAMA system. Keep in mind that the better the communication between the Assessor’s Office, the county IT staff, CCI and the Department of Revenue; the less likely these types of changes will have a negative impact on the Assessor’s ability to complete their work.
