Frequently Asked Questions: In prior years, the county had to verify the disability percentage for qualified disabled veteran. Is the county required to obtain the percentage of disability with the change in the statute?

Question

In prior years, the county had to verify the disability percentage for qualified disabled veteran.  Is the county required to obtain the percentage of disability with the change in the statute?

Answer

No.  At the time of exemption request, the veteran must prove compensable service disability as certified by the veterans administration or a branch of the armed forces.  The veteran needs to show a VA card or call the veteran administration for confirmation.  However, the percent disabled is required when selecting disabled from the drop down menu for "Operations".
